The Best Juicer For Celery
The Best Juicer For Celery

Celery juice is the latest hit, but squeezing can be problematic.

We tested four types of juicers to see which is the best for celery.

The craze for celery juice has spread throughout the world. Although we are skeptical of the “miraculous” benefits cited by many celebrities and models, there is no denying that celery juice has an excellent nutritional profile.

However, celery is one of the most challenging vegetables to squeeze due to its long fiber. We decided to squeeze 700 grams of celery using the four main types of juicers available to see which type is the easiest to use and gives the best results so we can recommend the best juicer for celery.

Here are the results, ranked from best to worst. Remember that another common way to make “juice” of celery is to chop it in a blender and then strain it through the sieve.

We do not recommend this method. Not only is it extra work, but the high speed of the blender also creates heat and oxidation that damages the quality of the juice.

Frequently Asked Questions About Best Juicer For Celery

Horizontal Masticating Juicer

The Easiest Way To Get High-Quality Celery Juice

The Easiest Way To Get High-Quality Celery Juice

In some comparisons, there is a clear winner. But that was not the case with celery. Since celery has a high water content (95%), good results are achieved with most juicers.

To determine the “winner,” we had to consider other factors such as juice quality, price, ease of use, and cleaning. Omega NC900HDC, the most popular juicer we reviewed here, represents horizontal juicers with a single drill.

Horizontal juicers are simple. The product is pushed through the feeding tube, and the long horizontal auger slowly takes small products.

These pieces are pressed onto a stainless steel sieve, producing efficient and mild juice extraction. However, horizontal masticating juicers are not as cheap as centrifugal juicers, which are more affordable than more complex vertical models.

The Easiest Way To Get High-Quality Celery Juice

Considering the price, speed, juice quality, and easy cleaning, the Omega NC900HDC took first place, although the yield was not the best. Since it has a large opening for the pulp outlet, the celery did not have to be cut into small pieces like a vertical juicer. This means that whole stalks could be placed at the speed the juicer can process. The squeezing was very fast; it took less than two minutes (1:58), including preparation. The horizontal one was the easiest to clean because the fibers on the drill were not tangled as in the case of a twin auger, nor were there any blockages in the pulp outlet as in the case of a vertical juicer. The amount of juice was the smallest of all the juicers tested, 450 ml, but the liquid was thick and tasty.

Vertical Masticating Juicer

Great Juicer If You Are Ready To Spend More Time In Cutting Celery

hurom-h101-juice-yield
Vertical Masticating Juicer

Vertical juicers are usually not suitable for celery. This is because the vertical ones have a minimal output for the pulp, and the long cellulose fibers in the celery pulp can form a mass that blocks the production of the pulp.

The only way to get around this is to cut the celery along the fibers into small pieces of 2 cm. This preparation adds approximately one minute to the total squeezing time.

You can use whole celery stems without any problem. In addition, it can be a little inconvenient to insert pieces of celery into the filling hole with your hand compared to simply feeding individual stems. This is not the case with Hurom H101 Juicer.

hurom-h101-juicing-testWe chose the new Hurom H101 Juicer, which brings some properties that we thought could be useful for celery. Hurom H101 comes with a control lever and a fine and coarse strainer that allow you to control the amount of pulp to suit your taste.

A lever on the front of the juicer allows you to open the pulp outlet’s rubber stopper partially. This plug usually remains completely closed to allow maximum pressure and yield.

But for softer raw materials, the partial opening could help reduce clogging at the cost of slightly lower juice yield. Hurom H101 has a large side feeding opening proven ideal for bringing in whole celery stems.

Test Results

A clogged pulp drain was not a problem with the Hurom H101 Juicer. Although we could set it to maximum pressure for a little more juice, we still had an impressive yield of 510 ml.

The tested juicers’ total squeezing time was achieved – 2:25 min. The cleaning was pretty quick, in 2:58 min. A big pulp opening meant that there was much easier to remove celery fiber.

The side feed tray and pulp control made squeezing the celery easier than most vertical juicers.

Pro

  • Easy To Use
  • Excellent Juice Quality
  • Good Juice Yield
  • Pretty Easy To Clean

Cons

  • Nothing

Twin Gear Juicer

The Best Juice And Yield, But With A Price That Suits

super-angel-juicer-juice-yield
Twin Gear Juicer

Twin-gear juicers usually give the highest yield compared to all types of juicers.

This is because they use two long counter-rotating gears that mash and break the raw materials into minor pieces and then press those tiny pieces onto the strainer sieve.

We chose the Super Angel Premium Deluxe to represent this category.

Angel Juicer 8500, 100% Stainless Steel Electric Juice Extractor, Anti-Jamming Auto-Reverse Function, 3HP Grinding Force, 82RPM Cold Press Premium Slow Juicer, Dual Gear Technology, SUS-316 Surgical Grade Stainless Steel, 10 Year Warranty

Made entirely of stainless steel, Angel is expensive – about three times the price of other juicers in this test. Even at that price, it is the most popular two-gear juicer we reviewed. Are the ease of use and results of the juice worth the extra cost? That’s what we wanted to see.

Test Results

super-angel-juicer-juicing-testAs expected, the Super Angel Twin Gear Juicer gave us the highest yield of 550 ml. It was also relatively fast, taking 1:50 min for our 700 grams of celery. As with Humrom H101 Juicer, there is no special preparation for celery. All you have to do is insert each stalk into the opening of the juicer.

The juice was of excellent quality but not noticeably different from the taste achieved with horizontal or vertical slow-moving juicers. The cleaning took a little longer, as the strainer sieve is quite large, with some tricky corners to clean.

Also, long fibers were wrapped around the gears and must be pulled out to avoid clogging the sink. The juicer had the best performance, but with a price three times higher than other juicers, it is really for enthusiasts.

Centrifugal Juicer

The Fastest And Cheapest Way To Get Celery Juice

breville-je98xl-juice-yieldCentrifugal juicers are the most common juicers on the market. This is because they are simple and cheap, although higher-quality models can cost more than 300 $.

Higher prices usually give you options like variable speed control or metal construction. Centrifugal juicers are the fastest because they work at very high speeds, up to 10,000 rpm.

However, this high speed can cause heat and oxidation, which leads to less nutritious and watery juices.

Oxidation can be partially avoided by using lemon or lime in the recipe – ascorbic acid slows down oxidation.

Centrifuges process raw materials with high water content but are not recommended for lower water, such as leafy vegetables.

We chose the top commercial Breville JE98XL juicer with a micro-mesh sieve that usually gives excellent results.

Test Results

breville-je98xl-juicing-testThe results of Breville JE98XL were surprisingly good for a centrifugal juicer, probably due to celery’s very high water content. It was the fastest juicer, processing 700 grams in less than 55 seconds.

It also achieved an impressive 510 milliliters of juice – thus sharing second place with the vertical masticating juicer.

The cleaning was a bit complicated. Very moist pulp was sprayed on the pulp container and had to be scraped by hand (other machines produced a much smaller pulp). And the big sieve took a little longer to clean. The quality of the juice was noticeably more watery in taste than the others.

The juice was also lighter in color, indicating that less fiber was processed in the liquid. We ranked it fourth, mainly because of the quality of the fluid, but we were impressed with the speed and yield.

If you plan to drink the juice immediately and don’t mind a long cleanse, centrifugal is a solid choice and much better than using a blender.

Pro

  • Cheapbreville-je98xl-cleaning
  • Very Fast
  • There Is Not Much Pulp In The Container

Cons

  • Loud
  • A Large Sieve Requires Long Cleaning
  • The Pulp Is Wet
  • Watery Juice
  • Oxidation – The Juice Must Be Drunk Immediately And Cannot Be Stored For Later Consumption

Conclusion

All four juicers performed well in our testing and would suit someone who needs fresh celery juice daily.

The most significant difference is that the three best juicers allow you to make juice earlier because low speeds reduce oxidation. If you use a centrifugal juicer, remember that the liquid must be consumed immediately.

Despite the lower yield, we chose horizontal as the best because it was easy to use and made excellent juice at a reasonable price. The vertical gives even more fluid, and in the case of Hurom H101, you don’t need to cut celery.

Although Angel was the best at squeezing juices, we didn’t think the slightly better results justified the higher cost for the average user. Finally, we were pleasantly surprised by the results of the centrifugal juicer.

He was put in fourth place because of the need to drink immediately, plus the mess around cleaning.

Finally, we can recommend Hurom H101 as the best juicer for celery:
